The Scandal Plan Or How to Win the Presidency by Cheating on Your Wife Bill Folman 9780061447655 Books
Thomas Campman, the campaign manager for the democratic presidential candidate, gets hit in the head with an idea while sitting on the toilet, believing he's received a message from God. Ben Phillips has been preparing for the role of president his entire life. He's got an impressive resume, a great deal of public service under his belt and truly believes in what he's fighting for. The problem is he's so clean that the public can't relate to him. Thomas believes what's needed to make Ben seem more human is to invent a small scandal in Ben's past. The results are funny as a good idea snowballs out of control in this witty page-turner.
It's difficult to believe that this is the author's first book. It's totally out of the genre I normally read, but I will definitely be looking for future books. The chapters don't run on, the characters are interesting, the story flows well, there's plenty of humor, and yet it is suspenseful in that you never know what's going to happen next. This book was fast and easy to read.

The Scandal Plan Or How to Win the Presidency by Cheating on Your Wife Bill Folman 9780061447655 Books Reviews
I bought this book even though the cover makes it appear to be a very light read. While it is a book you can breeze through,it was very well
written and the story had a bit more heft to it than I expected. It is
definitley a political satire, and it makes some very good points about the current environment as we approach a presidential election year. If you listen to the current rhetoric on the campaign trail, you would find
a lot of it is similar to what is written in this book. A fun read.
Loved it! Really funny and clever. A well crafted satire of the absurdity of how to win political popularity in America. Even though the story is fictitious, there were some really well thought out moments, such as how the ramifications of certain events would play out.
The book makes a really insightful point about how important authenticity is in the White House race - something you can argue that because of which a lot of other Premiers come into favour...Tony Blair, to take one example.
I especially loved the making-fun-of-the-US-media theme. And, also just like when you watch Jon Stewart, you are aware of how much the author is frustrated with, and worried about, how no one really cares about political issues, and in this case how important the effect of being authentic is on the public.
But instead of getting annoyed with the fact that politics has now become the 'third estate' and current general political apathy, Folman just laughs about it and makes up a silly story - something reminiscent of Douglas Adams.
I kept thinking 'this would be a great film' all the way (something I'm sure he wrote with in mind). Definitely looking forward to the next one. Maybe it will be a story about a race of beings who find the perfect democracy...?
Since I was nearing overload on election news already, I wanted something to read that would still be somewhat intelligent reading but amuse me. Enter "The Scandal Plan," and I'm glad I picked it up. It was the perfect balance of humor that had me laughing out loud, while making me feel like I was reading something that wasn't a trashy novel, but still was light and entertaining enough that I sped through it in less than a week -- mostly because I couldn't put it down! Definitely a good summer read, and definitely a must-read for someone who is a fan of "The Daily Show" or "The Colbert Report" who loves political satire and can appreciate some good humor in their presidential election. I've already recommended this book to a number of friends.
If you like Christopher Buckley, check out Bill Folman's novel The Scandal Plan. A little touch of Mark Twain (do not attempt to learn anything from this story), the absurdity of something that seems like it actually could happen, it makes for a fun read. A novel that skewers politics, politicians, and what makes for political debate, a very intelligent, quick paced, humorous read.
If you've ever found yourself shouting at cable news, this book is for you. The characters are wonderfully colorful and the plot is so outlandish it's believable. Folman takes the current political climate on his knee and gives it a well deserved spanking.
Great stuff!
This is a very funny book. It skewers contemporary image politics with a deft and absolutely spot-on wit. It's also a good read. The ultimate summer beach book it's smart, it entertains, it makes you laugh and it makes you think. When I started it, I worried that it was too long. When I finished, I was sorry it didn't go on for another 150 pages.
The Scandal Plan, Bill Folman's debut novel, is a masterpiece! It's funny, witty, fast-moving, intelligent, edgy, current, and a great read. Just in time for the fall election, The Scandal Plan pokes fun at the absurd reality of presidential elections and the media coverage of them. It doesn't matter if you're a conservative or a liberal, a Democrat or a Republican, a fan of Hannity or a fan of Colmes, this book is for everyone who has a sense of humor about politics. It's an intelligent satire that's just plain fun to read.
